I dug 18 plants out of my yard and planted them in a new friend’s yard last week. And oh my, it made me happy and was so darn satisfying!
Here are my joy points:
- At least 50% of the things growing in my own yard are transplanted from other people’s yards, so I had the joy of paying the blessing forward, which just felt fabulous!
- What a great way to grow friendships! Both with my partner in the planting and also the friend who wanted help.
- I get antsy when too much time goes by without getting to make something beautiful. I love repainting or making over a room, making a quilt, or digging around in my yard. So this satisfied my itch!
- I remember all too well how lost I was when I bought my first house and became responsible for the landscape. My friend Amy held my hand and showed me the ropes! Doing this felt like a celebration of becoming semi-competent at something.
- We share the delight of God in a mutually beneficial, interdependent community. Too often, we are tempted to depend on no one and do things alone. This way is better!
